Whether you’re shopping for a budget or high-end beauty, leading smartphone brands pack a massive range of devices with brilliant features. Recently, renowned smartphone manufacturer Micromax listed one of its finest mid-range devices of 2015, Canvas Hue 2. The successor of original Canvas Hue comes with a great set of features and promises to be big hit in the smartphone market. Its unique design language and high-end specs can definitely challenge leading players, but today, we’ll be comparing its efficiency with Samsung’s famous Galaxy Grand. Micromax Canvas Hue 2

Design and Build
Both smartphones, Canvas Hue 2 and Galaxy Grand pack a nice look and feel for best experience. The newly launched Canvas Hue 2 comes with a well-finished aluminum body and is just 7mm thick, while Samsung Galaxy Grand features the essence of old-school S III and is slightly thicker with 9.6mm. In terms of build, both smartphones are fairly sturdy to deliver top-grade results for a long time period. Display Quality
In the display department, Canvas Hue 2 is a whole lot better than Galaxy Grand. The newly launched Micromax smartphone flaunts a beautiful HD AMOLED display of 5-inches. With a resolution of 720x1280 pixels, the display of this looks much better and crispier than the display 5-inch TFT LCD display of Galaxy Grand. The old-gen Samsung smartphone features a pixel density of 187ppi and doesn’t stands anywhere near the sharp display of Canvas Hue 2. If you’re shopping for an excellent viewing experience, Canvas Hue 2 is just the right choice for you.

Hardware specs
Just like display, the hardware configuration of Canvas Hue 2 is also better than Galaxy Grand. On one hand, Canvas Hue 2 delivers top-notch performance with a quad-core MediaTek MT6582 chipset clocked at a speed of 1.7 GHz, while on the other, Galaxy Grand powers up by a 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor. The 2GB RAM clubbed with Hue 2 also adds more power compared to the 1GB RAM of Galaxy Grand. No doubt, Micromax has created a perfect master-piece for top-level performance while switching between apps or playing high-end games.

Camera capabilities
In the camera department, Canvas Hue 2 packs an improved 13-megapixel rear and 5-migapixel front-facing snapper. The camera efficiency of this device is much better than 8-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front-facing shooter of Galaxy Grand. Both smartphones will give you ideal photography experience, but considering the fact that Galaxy Grand is slightly old-school, camera of Canvas Hue 2 will be considered better and reliable. Whether it’s a day light or low-light shot, both smartphones will cater your needs ideally.

Storage options
For app and media storage, Canvas Hue 2 has been equipped with 16 gigs of inbuilt memory, expandable by up to 32 gigs. This smartphone gives you sufficient amount of space, and is much better than the 8GB on-board storage packed with Galaxy Grand. But, if you want more support in terms of expandability, Galaxy Grand will have an upper hand with additional expansion up to 64 gigs. Either way, both phones feature enough space for keeping a massive selection of files.

Software and Interface
Canvas Hue 2 offers standard support in terms of software efficiency, and runs the recent Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-box. Featuring a decent interface with little bloatware, this phone gives you top-notch performance from every aspect. Its upgradability to Android Lollipop is not yet confirmed, but in front of Galaxy Grand running Android 4.2, it’s definitely a better and ideal choice. In a close faceoff, the improved interface of Canvas Hue 2 looks much smoother and smarter than the outdated version TouchWiz UI of Galaxy Grand.

Connectivity
On the connectivity front, Canvas Hue 2 and Galaxy Grand go neck toneck, and pack standard support with Micro-USB, 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and Bluetooth options. Both smartphones are equipped with 3.5mm jack for plugging in external headphones and with A-GPS. Web browsing on both of these phones will also be extremely smooth and glitch-free.

Battery and Power Consumption
If you’ll compare power efficiency of Canvas Hue 2 and Galaxy Grand, you’ll get decent performance both smartphones. On paper, Canvas Hue 2 packs a battery of 2000mAh and promises to offer ~8 hours of talk time, while Galaxy Grand features a slightly bigger 2100mAh battery, and promises to give 10 hours of talk time. Whether you’re at home or at work, both of these phones will definitely hold sufficient amount of charge for the whole day.

Price
Samsung Galaxy Grand is rolling at a price around 12k, while Canvas Hue 2 is listed online at Rs. 11,900. As per retailers, the Maximum Offering Price (MOP) of this handset is Rs 12,499, and official MRP is Rs. 17,999. It will be available at online as well as offline stores, but as of now, it can be purchased via various online retailers.

Final Verdict

In a close face off, Canvas Hue 2 looks slightly better than Galaxy Grand. The improved design, hardware and interface of this device gives an upper hand to Micromax. Both of these phones can cater your needs, but if you’re shopping for an improved experience with no lags or glitches, take your pick with CanvasHue 2. It’s a perfect mid-range smartphone, and packs a nice set of specifications to deliver perfect performance right from the word go! Galaxy Grand, on the other hand is also a decent smartphone, but according to current market trends, its price should be slightly lesser than what Samsung is offering right now. As of now, this phone is too old to take on new handsets from leading smartphone vendors.
