Introduction to DBMS Architecture.

Architecture of database system is greatly influenced by the architecture of computer system. This chapter deals with the following types of architecture of a database systems.
  1. Centralized System
  2. Client-server System
  3. Parallel System
  4. Distributed System
  5. Web-enabled enabled System.
Each Architecture reflects following aspects of computer architecture
  • Networking: It is in terms of how different nodes are connected with each other and how they communicate with each other with respect to databases.
  • Parallelism: It involves execution of several transactions/execution of same transaction on several nodes concurrently to optimize the overall performance.
  • Distribution: It refers to division of total workload (query execution) amongst different nodes in a network.
